Uhhhhhh help fitness mile tips?
OK OK there is this stupid 5th grade fitness test on monday and i am sooooo gonna fail. i was wondering for tips for an "under"weight person to get better running a mile in 10 min or less? i need some tips on getting faster, saving energy, preparation, breathing, or something like that
ohhh this is an EASY task! first off, they’re giving ya a LOT of time to do this mile.
So we will work a just a couple of things.
do NOT take off fast. let the others take off, and you can have some satisfaction passing them back.
oops, I missed something already. Do Not eat a lot before the run. dont eat stuff that will cause you gas or belching. it doesnt take any special food to give you energy to do a 10 minute mile. you just dont want to get a side ache via gas, via gassy foods???? eat light. then pig out after. grin.
warm up some. nice EASY stretches. dont pull anything! just loosen up some. again, this will be an easy pace. about 15 minutes before the start, run a bit starting easy and then going about 80% speed. this is just to get your heart rate up a bit. out of your morning wake up heart rate. telling your heart, and lungs, we’re going to work a bit guys.
ok do not FEAR or get nervous about the race. its too easy to fret! let the others take the lead. then start out an average speed.
we can talk a bit about form, but you only have time to think, make your stride smooth, and feet striking under your chest, dont reach your feet out too far in front, as that will cause a braking affect.
breathing…well THIS might cause ya some discomfort. you will be breathing harder/longer than normal. we dont want to breathe too fast, thats causes an Oxygen debt, runs ya out of breathe kinda, to the point you might have to stop.now if this ever happens, slow maybe to a stop, keep walking for a 1/4 lap ,then take off again, slowwwwly smoothly. you’re not really as exhausted as your lunges make you think you are. its tricking you a bit. hence the short walk, and then back to your run. SO, do not take off too fast. run smoothly. carry your arms chest high, with little swaying motion. keep your head level or slightly down because one thing that can hurt you is if you tighten up!! by the way, this makes for a GREAT excuse, just tell people, I tightened up out there, and that was that. they’ll nod, agreeing ly. not your fault, you tighten up!
ok, so stay loose, do not have your head up or back. also coming out of corners, reward yourself by shaking your arms just a bit, then back into position. they will thank you for this small token of appreciation, and reward you by not tightening up!

ok, breathing!!! steady, rhythmic (I needed help spelling that!). I breathe to a favorite song!!! works every time. you might have to try out a couple of your favs before finding one that matches your breathing.
ok, you have taken off, you have passed back a few runners, NOW you need to look for someone who is running at your speed, and run right behind them. stare at their butt, and breath to your song. trust me, this works! one thing can go wrong with this, your runner might slow down too much, and you will have to trade her in on a new runner. also, your runner might go crazy and take off on you…let them go, find a NEW running buddy. ok now you have someone helping you keep your pace! I am sure that any comfortable pace you choose, running with another runner who is trying, will be plenty fast enough for a 10 minute mile. probably faster. its good to have a stop watch/wrist watch to check the lap times(you must learn them in advance..but you can ignore all this if you want) at least try to get your half way time and compare to 5 minutes. Im sure you will be fine.
as you come out of the last turn, go ahead, and give it a bit of gas! couldnt hurt.
so mostly breathing steady to a song, staying loose while running by maintaining good form, and finding a running buddy, and running right behind her. then just concentrate on the song!
good luck!
